Privacy Policy
Last updated: 4 September 2026
This policy explains what Overt (the “app”) does with data. It is written to be read, not to be survived: if something here is unclear, write to us and we will answer in plain words.
The app is operated by Cassidy Rowan (“we”, “us”), an individual developer, contact address: 212 S Division St, Ann Arbor, MI 48104, United States. Contact for any privacy question or request: liam.spencer3710@gmail.com.
1. There is no account
Overt does not ask for an email address, a password, a phone number or a name. It does not read your contacts, your photos, your calendar or your location. On first launch the app creates an anonymous identifier through Firebase Authentication. That identifier is not linked to you as a person; it exists so the server can keep your searches separate from other people’s and apply daily limits.
2. What we process, and why
- What you type in the app — your question, or the name you are searching for. It is sent to our server to run the search. Without it the app cannot do anything at all.
- Results of the search — the pages found, the written answer, and the report. Stored so that you can reopen a past search from History instead of paying for it twice.
- The anonymous identifier and daily counters — to apply the limits described in the Terms and to stop automated abuse.
- Usage events — which screens were opened, whether a search was started, whether the purchase screen was shown. Used to understand where the app is confusing, and how people found it.
- Device and install data — device model, iOS version, language, app version, and the advertising identifier if you allowed tracking when the system asked. Used for attribution: to know which advertisement an install came from.
We do not sell personal data. We do not build advertising profiles of you, and we do not share your searches with advertisers.
3. People search: data about someone else
Some installs of Overt include a people search mode. In it, the name you enter is used to find publicly available web pages about a person and to assemble them into a report, with a link next to every fact.
- We do not use private databases, credit files, criminal records or background-check providers. Everything in a report comes from pages that are open to anyone with a web browser.
- A report is visible only to the person who requested it. It is not published anywhere and is not shared with third parties.
- Overt must not be used to make decisions about employment, housing, credit, insurance or eligibility for a benefit. It is not a consumer reporting agency and its reports are not consumer reports under the U.S. Fair Credit Reporting Act or any comparable law.
- If you are the person described in a report and you want it removed, write to the contact address above and we will delete the stored copy. We cannot remove the underlying web pages — they belong to the sites that publish them.
4. Who else sees the data
To work at all, the app passes data to a small number of providers. Each one receives only what its job requires.
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Analytics) — anonymous identifier, your searches and their results, usage events.
- Serper.dev — the search query itself, to run the web search.
- Novita AI — the query and the text of found pages, to write the answer or the report.
- Amplitude — usage events.
- AppsFlyer — install and attribution data.
- Meta (Facebook) — install and advertising attribution data, if you allowed tracking.
- Apple — the purchase itself. Payment happens inside the App Store; we never see your card, and Apple tells us only that a valid subscription exists.
5. Tracking and the system prompt
When you first open the app, iOS may ask whether Overt can track you across apps and websites. If you decline, the advertising identifier is not used and attribution works without it. Declining does not limit any feature of the app. You can change this later in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
6. How long we keep things
- Searches and reports — kept while you may want to reopen them, and deleted on request.
- Daily counters — reset every day; the record has no further use after that.
- Usage events — kept in aggregate form for product analysis.
- Local history on the device — stays on your iPhone until you clear it in Settings, or delete the app.
7. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, or to object to its processing. Write to the contact address above. Because the app has no account, we may ask you for the anonymous identifier from Settings → About to find your data — without it we cannot tell your records apart from anyone else’s.
Deleting the app removes the local history from the device. To have the server-side copies deleted as well, send us the request above.
8. Children
Overt is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly process their data. If you believe a child has used the app, write to us and we will delete the records.
9. Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects you, we will update the date at the top and, where the change is significant, tell you inside the app.
